Viktor Kabaniaev Viktor Kabaniaev was trained at the famed Vaganova School in St. Petersburg, Russia. During the years that followed, he worked as a principal dancer in various ballet companies in the former Soviet Union, Germany and United States including Leningrad State Ballet Theater under the directorship of Mr. Boris Eifman, (1987-1989), Russian Ballet, (1989-1990), Komische Oper Berlin, (1990-1992), Dortmund Ballet, (1992-1994), Hannover Ballet (1996-1998) and Diablo Ballet (1998-2003). In 2003-2005 he served as Associate Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer for Moving Arts Dance, Walnut Creek, CA. Mr. Kabaniaev has performed principal roles in many classical, neoclassical and modern ballets and has toured extensively in France, Iraq, Poland, Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Liechtenstein, Sweden, Austria, Panama, and Thailand. Mr. Kabaniaev choreographed his first piece "Transfigured Night" in 1997 for Hannover Ballet Workshop. In July of 1997, he was awarded a Special Prize for his second choreography "Adagietto" at the 29th Annual Ballet Festival of Japan, held in Tokyo. Mr. Kabaniaev has created over twenty works for Hannover Ballet, Diablo Ballet, Moving Arts Dance, Moving Arts II, Contra Costa Ballet, Arizona Dance Company Instinct and Polish Dance Company "Trojmiejski Teatr Plastyki Ruchu." He also re-staged his works for Cincinnati Ballet and Peninsula Ballet. Mr. Kabaniaev's works were presented in Republic of Belarus, France, Germany, Poland, Japan and United States. In 2004 he won the First Laureate for Choreography of his "White Light" at the 3rd International Serge Diaghilev Competition for Choreographers, Gdynia, Poland. Mr. Kabaniaev currently serves as a Director of Diablo Ballet Apprentice Program and Artistic Director of Santa Rosa Dance Theater, he also teaches Advanced Ballet at the San Francisco Dance Center and company class for Alonzo King's LINES Ballet and Diablo Ballet. Mr. Kabaniaev is a prominent force in the world of contemporary choreography. This year alone his pieces have been seen in such prestigous events as the Youth America Grand Prix Gala, the Peter Pestov Gala in Moscow and most recently he was selected as one of only four choreographers to present his work in the National Choreographers' Initiative at University of California Irvine. www.nchoreographers.org www.kabaniaev.com |
